Inauguration of a commemorative plaque at the start of the Via Alpina in Trieste
This Thursday, 24 June at 6pm in Trieste, a commemorative plaque on the Via Alpina has been unveiled. It lies on the prestigious site of the Obelisque, at the arrival point of stage B2 of the Yellow Trail.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Trieste Roberto Cosolini, the Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco in Rome, H.E. Robert Fillon, and the Honorary Consul of the Principality in Trieste, Gesualdo Pianciamore. This plaque is indeed the counterpart of the one inaugurated on the Palace Square in Monaco by Prince Albert in 2002.
From the Obelisque, the Via Alpina continues its way through the Trieste karst along the Slovenian border, before reaching the Julian Prealps and then the Dolomites, crossing Austria in the Ötztal and Lechtal Alps and meeting the Red and Purple trails in Germany, in Oberstdorf in the Allgäu. An extremely varied route between 0 and 3000m!
