VIA ALPINA - WAY OF PEACE
On account of the fact that the international “Via Alpina” route spans in an area that’s been the theatre of bitter conflicts, and grasping the symbolic value the itinerary nowadays has as an instrument for exchanges and cooperation among alpine peoples, the idea of a project interagrating the themes of peace and hiking has come out. The project, realized in cooperation with the “Network of schools for education to peace”, has involved studends and teachers during the 2006-2007 academic year. The aim was to make them know the regional mountain environment in its natural, cultural and historical features by using the Via Alpina route as a scenery. The project foresaw some didactic hikes during the year along the Via Alpina route, and, from 5th to 8th June 2007, a final event with an international nature in the Forni di Sopra (UD) stopping place, which had over 400 students and teachers from 13 different schools of the Friuli Venezia Giulia, Slovenian and Austrian neighbouring regions participating. During the event students, assisted by teachers and experts, took part in didactic laboratories with naturalistic, artistic character, dedicated to the solution of inter-relational conflicts, produced essays of different kinds and also gave life to sport meetings and cultural activities linked to the initiative’s contents.
