Historical and architectural information:
This Monumental Shrine gathers the corpses of both Italian and Austrian-Hungarian Dead, known and unknown, all exhumed from war cemeteries scattered from Baisnizza plateau to Vipacco. The monumental work, which looks like a severe and strong fort, is made up of a big central tower with an underground crypt and three lateral towers on a triangle’s vertex, linked together by underground galleries inside. The burial recesses of the known Dead are arranged along the walls of the three gallery levels inside the central tower and along the internal walls of the lateral towers; the unknown Dead are all buried together within three large charnel houses in the middle of the lateral towers.
