The trail leads from the Falken hut over alpine meadowland down to the romantic Ladizalm pasture and the little Ahornboden plateau, where the Hermann von Barth monument stands. The great maple trees and the well invite you to linger a while, but not for too long, because it is still a long way to the Karwendelhaus lodge and down to Scharnitz.
From the Falken Hut, both the forest road and the hiking trail behind the refuge lead to the Karwendelhaus lodge. Via Alpina follows the hiking trail, as the forest road is reserved for mountain bikers. After approx. 15min, however, it comes out again onto the forest road leading to the Ladizalm meadow. Follow this road until the “Karwendelhaus, Kleiner Ahornboden” turnoff. After a further 30min you again come to a turnoff. It is possible to take a more direct track to the Karwendelhaus lodge. This trail is charming from a landscape point of view but does not take you to the Kleine Ahornboden and the Hermann von Barth memorial. It is therefore better to follow the wider trail leading to the idyllic Kleine Ahornboden meadowland, which with its large, shady sycamore maples and well is a suitable resting place (approx. 1h 15min from the Falken Hut). From the Kleine Ahornboden, follow the trail in the direction of the Karwendelhaus lodge, reaching the Hochalmsattel pass after approx. 1h 30min. From the Hochalmsattel pass, you can already see down into the Karwendeltal valley. And the view back over the Falken Hut and the Laliderer Wall is also well worth it. A 30-minute hike takes you to the Karwendelhaus lodge. Here, the Via Alpina alternative to Innsbruck branches off via the Birkkarscharte wind gap, the Hallerangerhaus lodge and the Pfeis Hut. However, only experienced mountaineers should cross the Birkkarspitze peak (2,749m), the highest elevation in the Karwendel mountains. Via Alpina leads further down into the Karwendeltal valley, where a 20km hike leads along the merchant trail close to the Karwendelbach stream. After an initially steep walk, the route becomes pleasantly flat and the flowery splendour of the Karwendeltal valley can be enjoyed to the full. It takes 4h 30min to walk to Scharnitz. Those who find the Falken Hut – Scharnitz stage too long can stay overnight at the Karwendelhaus lodge.(Christina Schwann, OeAV)
Natural and cultural heritage
The trail to the Karwendelhaus lodge leads past the Kleine Ahornboden, where you absolutely must stop for a while or fit in a rest, in order to get a feel for the special magic of this place. Surrounded by the highest peaks of the Karwendel range, the Kleine Ahornboden lies enchanted at its feet. The Hermann von Barth Memorial in the shade of one of the mighty maple trees reminds us of the person who opened up the Karwendel range for mountaineering. And that is probably what makes this patch of earth so special, because there is nothing here to disturb the harmony between mountains, maples, animals and also people who do not close their minds to it. The Karwendelhaus lodge at 1,750m in altitude at the foot of the highest elevation of the Karwendel, the Birkkarspitze peak standing at 2,749m, towers over the Karwendeltal valley, which stretches far off to the West. It was completed after a 5-year construction period by the M.T.V. Munich section of the German Alpine Club in 1908. For the building to be erected, 4,000cqm of rocks had to be laboriously removed using pickaxes and dynamite. Today, the outstandingly equipped house is still a starting point for many alpine trips and a popular excursion destination for many mountain bikers. In addition to this, the turn-off for the Via Alpina route to Innsbruck is at the Karwendelhaus. This route leads across the Birkkarspitze peak, past the Hallerangerhaus lodge, the Pfeis Hut and the Nordkette mountains right into the heart of the alpine town of Innsbruck, which in addition to its numerous cultural highlights is also the headquarters of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention. The Karwendelbach stream – a main feature of the Karwendeltal valley – has its source below the Birkkarspitze peak and tumbles steeply downward right beside the Karwendelhaus. It only settles further down in the valley where its turquoise waters splash happily along the gently downward slope of the valley. The valley vegetation is characterised by avalanches, which prevents the formation of high forest. Swiss mountain pines and beech colonies give the valley its special appearance. In the area of the Stachelkopf peak, the northernmost occurrence of cembran pines can be found at a rock wall and the sycamore maple has also found a home in the Lachetalm meadow area. (Christina Schwann, OeAV)

A Gasse, plusieurs hébergements possibles.

Wednesday, June 20th Starting from Karwendelhaus (due to the closing due to the closure of the Falkenhütte on the R42), we first go down a wide path taken by the mountain bikers to Scharnitz, where André leaves us under a blazing sun. Thierry and I push to Gasse, the climb to Hoher Sattel was a bit trying, but the desert landscape of Sattelklamm is worth it! See also my blog "vivelaretraitesurlaviaalpina.blogspot.com". In Gasse, several possible accommodations.

Very nice step to Angeralm. Then it's a bit long and monotonous. Nice arrival on Scharnitz but with a little rain. We slept at the Frakenhof "(very good), but the pizza in front of the church was somehow, and the" broken down "card reader ...
Spar in Scharnitz is closed. There is a small MPreis at the gasstation which has the basics. In Weidach and Leutach is a good supermarket. It's a bit of a labyrinth between the Birzkapelle and Scharnitz, perhaps easier when you're going down, but I lost the Via Alpina and ended up on a overgrown snowshoe trail.
In Scharnitz I was welcomed in Haus Seibold (nr317), behind the church. €30 B&B. The warden is a one-time hiker himself, and you can ask him anything. Important detail: you will get a soft boiled egg with breakfast!
The tourist office is opened until 5PM, Sundays closed. Have yourself informed about the diversions caused by the building of a tunnel on the Via-Alpina track!
There is a taxi service from the Karwendel Haus to Scharnitz (plm 20km). €105, share price with other passengers. The hut warden will order the taxi for you.

hallo Bergfreunde,
Herzlichst
Robert Lemke

hi mountain friends
my partner and I were from northern Germany in June 2012 in the Alps Karwendel. We had a location in Scharnitz, guesthouse Helga to take day trips from there to the Karwendel. Now I read here that is passed on from Karwendelhaus Scharnitz still a possibility of a break in the laughs Alm. I would now suggest that this pasture by the warden Helga Schallhart (haus-helga@privatzimmervermieter.at) is no longer farmed and the lodge is opened thus no longer.
Sincerely

"Haus Helga" is a great B&B on the edge of Scharnitz, coming down from Falkenhuette. The house is marked with signage, easily spotted from the road as you're walking toward town. Helga offers clean, comfortable rooms and is a kind host.

17/6/11 Very long day of hiking. Brunnerhof, across from the church in Scharnitz is a wonderful and quiet place to stay.
