In the middle of the Karwendel alpine park at the foot of the highest mountain of the Karwendel, the Birkarspitze peak (2,749m), alternative route for Via Alpina to Innsbruck via the Birkarspitze (secured trail), Hallerangerhaus lodge (walking time of 7h 30min), Pfeis Hut; the source of the Karwendel river is situated beside the Karwendelhaus lodge and plunges downward from there. Further down in the Karwendeltal valley, it carves its way deeper into the ravine. A beautiful view into the Karwendeltal valley; especially if you are coming from Scharnitz, an overnight stay in the Karwendelhaus lodge is recommended.
