From Fontanazzo the trail climbs into the heart of the Catinaccio range, initially along the solitary Val de Dona valley (site of the Val de Dona hut) continuing at the feet of the rocky dolomites, entering a lunar landscape along a broad trail that leads, at length, to the Antermoia hut. ** THE ANTERMOIA HUT IS UNDERGOING REFURBISHMENT WORKS DURING THE SUMMER 2014. THERE IS A CATERING SERVICE BUT OVERNIGHTING IS ONLY POSSIBLE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SLEEP AT EITHER THE DONA HUT (STAGE B24) OR THE PASSO PRINCIPE/ GRASLEITENPASS HUT (STAGE B25).**
From the bus stop at Fontanazzo, walk down the pavement for a few hundred metres and, near a few old houses, there is a narrow street (trail 577) that climbs around the fields to the west of the village. The trail skirts round a field with a barn and soon afterwards hits a flat forest track which the walker follows to the left. Near the Dona stream, turn right. The trail climbs again, up the steep slopes of Mount Ponjin. There are a number of barns and, just over the brow of a hill, the next valley begins, with the gentle hills typical of volcanic landscapes. Here is the Val di Dona hut. Continue up the left-hand slope of the valley. After a brief uphill walk, a plain marks the meeting of the valley with that of Udai. A level trail leads straight to the top of the valley where the plain gives way to white stone terraces. The trail gains altitude rapidly, winding along and then cutting diagonally across to end at the Dona pass, within view of the Antermoia hut, which is about twenty minutes away along a level trail, across the scree slopes of Mount Cima di Dona. (Under no circumstances should walkers stop under these cliffs near the hut). The descent into the valley is along the winding trail 580. Near a plain, leave the trail to follow trail 577 along the gully at the bottom of the valley. Past some farms, the Fassa valley comes into view. Trail 577 leads all the way to the village of Fontanazzo. (Provincia Autonoma di Trento)
Natural and cultural heritage
The route takes the walker from the sometimes brutal lunar landscape that is typical of the higher reaches of the Dolomites to the green slopes of the side valleys of volcanic origin. The vegetation changes gradually from woodland to high pastures to the hardy grasses typical of scree slopes.

The landscapes are very varied, the atmosphere at the Antermoia refuge is lunar, and Lake Antermoia, nestled in its rocky setting, is the icing on the cake of the stage. From Fontanazzo, the first part of the ascent to the charming refuge Dona, in the valley of the same name, is quite steep and mostly in the forest. Then comes the smooth crossing of the valley, very green and very open. It is lined with pretty cottages, very well maintained by their owners. The Tyrolean flag begins to float in the air. To reach the pass Antermoia, quite busy, the climb is done in a rocky environment, in laces. The view from the pass is splendid. The Antermoia hut, very well equipped and equipped, offers you a comfort and a "luxury" rare in this mountain environment. If there is no room in this one, you can, at 1:30 on the route, try your luck at the Prinzipe shelter, perched on its steep slope.
