Leave Gsteig heading south along the Flurstrasse road. At the end of the road, the steep track through the Roter Graben rift to the Auberge du Sanetsch inn begins. Alternatively, take the aerial cable car. Follow the left bank of the Sanetsch lake until reaching the Sanetsch pass. Continue past the Sex Rouge to Mié. From here, the trail descends steeply to Godey, the stage destination.
Leave Gsteig on the farmland road heading to the south east until reaching the Saane river. Then continue along the right-hand bank of the stream to the valley station of the aerial cable car. The climb through the Rote Graben rift is worth it, as it allows a short detour to the Sanetschfall waterfall. After the break, continue in hairpin bends steeply up to the Sanetsch Hut and its chapel. An extensive plain with the Lac du Sanetsch reservoir opens out here. Walk along the left-hand bank of the lake towards the Sanetsch pass, which was formerly used as a mule track from Gsteig to Sitten. The pass, carpeted in alpine plastureland, is relatively wide, and to the west the Lapis de Tsanfleuron scree fields follow on in front of the Tsanfleuron glacier. Close to the Tsanfleuron bus stop, the trail leads along the edge of the scree fields up to the Sex Rouge. The mountain trail leads over the pass north of the Tete Noire down to the Mié high plateau. Here, the trail branches off to the west and leads past the Mié alpine huts to the Poteu des Etales rocky passage. The very steep descent through the rocky passage is secured with ropes and hand grips and requires you to pay careful attention. Just before La Lizerne, the trail continues at this altitude until arriving above the Godet reservoir. This is where the short descent to the dam and Godet, the stage destination, begins. (Schweizer Wanderwege).
Natural and cultural heritage
Sanetsch Pass For centuries, the Sanetsch pass was the most important alpine connection between Bern and Wallis. Since the 11th century, the inhabitants of Savièse have driven their herds to the meadows around Gsteig. They also used the pass to go and sell fruit and vegetables and other wares in the Saanenland region. However, the pass not only served the purposes of trade but also of various war crusades. In 1418, the Bernese marched south with their allies, the Lords of Raron, to assist the power-hungry barons against the Walsers and in 1475 they rushed to the help of the Sitter people, who were under attack from the Savoys . I had to return back to the road just before the top of Sex Rouge. It had snowed and in the last 100 meter there was a steep rock to climb with cables/ladders. Did not manage to get up and did not want to take risks. An alternative could have been to walk to Cabane de Prarochet, but because that was still 200m higher and the snow I decided to return back to Tsanfleuron and from there take the bus to Sion and the next day the bus from Sion to Godey to pick up the route again.

The descent from Mie to Godey is really demanding despite good safety. The overnight stay at the Berggasthof Godey was ok, half board 60 CHF per person.
Steep trail up to Poteu des Etales. There is an abandoned chapel by Chaux de Miex. Makes for a great place to sleep overnight. The path to Lac Senin is easy to follow. No need to take th gondola to Gsteig. There is a path that goes down, steep, but easy to follow. The office of Tourism in Gsteig is very helpful if looking for a place to sleep. There is a grocery store in town as well.

Trieste-Monaco on 9/8/15 Bivouac possible in the first part of the climb next to a hut in a place called "rotegrabe" on the card (1425m). Beautiful mounted frame. After the descent of the Col du Sanetsch, we arrive at a mountain farm: refueling can cheese and water. Welcome. From that point, the markup has failed to reach the path that navigates between the lapiaz Transfleuron and Genies. After we find a good markup. The spread of poteu demand your attention. Keep focus and energy to this passage. 1/2 pension inn Godey. Wanting to leave early in the morning lendemai, I had to eat outside. The room is not open at this early hour ...

A Gsteig j'ai logé à l'hôtel Heiti, à 5-10 min.

The passage of the Poteu spread is not easy: long enough. Avoid rain or after a heavy rain. I had trouble finding the path from Tsanfleuron for Col du Sanetsch. No sign or marking. We must follow the path that starts immediately left after the house of pasture left. We then find an old markup white-red-white somewhat cleared. Auberge du Sanetsch: avoid. Home very unsympathetic. High prices for drinks and desserts. A Gsteig I stayed at the hotel Heiti, 5-10 min. walk from the center of Gsteig along the road to the Col du Pillon. Large rooms (CHF 97.- with breakfast incl.). Restaurant. Camping. The Tourist Office in the center of the village helped me a lot, very helpful.

During the night spent in the hotel Sanetsch weather was completely degraded (rain and snow from 2000m). The bus operates in summer and on weekends until October! So we walk directly down the valley to Chandolin, but beware: 1754m to listing the torrent (to the east) is impassable with the rain, take the side trail to the west and as the second torrent is also impassable, descend 20m before on a path along the first time in a torrent and joins the track Tsarein to 1605m. The rain was such that the road (1000m) to the Devil's Bridge was forbidden even to pedestrians! The detour was going to be very long ... luckily a van took us 4 a ride.

Lauenen we went to the hotel Sanetsch (Tsanfleuron). The weather forecast is bad we took the cable car to avoid reaching the pass in the rain or in fog. Hotel Sanetsch nice, lovely view, a bit expensive home without "more".

Mountain Girl - 2011-10-27
As noted below, avoid the Auberge de Sanetsch. A nice alternative is the HOTEL DE SANETSCH at Tsanfleuron. This is an old-style (1885) mountain hotel that's been carefully renovated. It has both rooms and dortoir for every budget. Nice views too.
I also heartily agree with Lou Pape that hike to Godey should NOT be attempted in poor weather. Cables, short ladder section and very steep trail will unnerve anyone with vertigo.
I agree with the other hikers, that Auberge de Sanetsch is really expensive. Also the waitress was not friendly.
It's not easy to find the way to Sex Rouge since direction signs are missing (Summer 2010):
The hiking path is continuing to the right at the farm Tsanfleuron. After a while, you'll see way markers again drawn on some rocks.
