Leave Leukerbad and head northward, climbing steeply up to the Gemmi pass or taking the aerial cable car. Continue along the right-hand bank of the Daubensee lake to reach Schwarenbach, the stage destination.
On looking from the Leukerbad spa resort towards the perpendicular rocky towers of the Gemmi, one could well ask where on earth the mountain trail leads to. But doubts soon subside as the trail is very well constructed. It may be steep and demanding, but in return, you will be rewarded at the Gemmi pass with a super view over the surrounding mountain peaks of the Wallis Alps. However, for those who still do not want to try the Gemmiweg trail, there is also an aerial cable car. The Gemmi pass is an old pass crossing between the Bernese Oberland and Wallis regions and connects the towns of Kandersteg and Leukerbad. In the summer, this hike is one of the traditional pass walks in Switzerland. From the Gemmi pass, head slowly along the dirt road down to the shore of the Daubensee lake. At the end of the lake, the dirt road opens out into a wide mountain trail and leads through a little rock valley to the Schwarenbach inn, the stage destination. (Schweizer Wanderwege).
Natural and cultural heritage
Gemmi Pass The name Gemmi appeared for the first time on a Swiss map in 1495. The name “Gemmi” comes from the Latin “gemitus”, which means to sigh or groan, and on looking at the steep rock face hikers may now and then very well feel like doing just that. The Gemmi pass (2,314m) between the Daubenhorn and the Plattenhörnern peaks has for centuries been a well-known crossing from Leukerbad to Kandersteg. At the same time, it forms the watershed between the Rhone and the Rhine, but not the political border between the cantons of Bern and Wallis. The Daubensee lake, supplied by a wide feeder stream from the Lämmeren area, has no visible water outlet. The water disappears through clefts in the limestone-rich mountain and feeds a large spring at the Rhone above Salgesch. The canton of Wallis, and thus also the community area of Leukerbad, stretches far to the north. The Gemmi region has developed into a popular excursion destination. In the summer, the hiking trails to Kandersteg and Adelboden are open and it can be reached from practically all sides by cable car and chair lift. (Schweizer Wanderwege)

Bei schönem Wetter wäre es schade die Luftseilbahn für den Aufstieg zu nehmen. Der Weg ist gut zu gehen und beeindruckend, man kann sich gar nicht vorstellen wo sich bei diesen Felsen der Weg befindet.

In good weather, it would be a shame to take the cable car for the ascent. The path is good to walk and impressive, you can not imagine where the path is by these rocks.

If you walk past the valley station, you should have made at least for enough water. There are at about 1900 hm a small rivulet with potable water, but it is a risk to the reach. Who still has enough power left to run the Daubensee and takes the most direct route to Adelboden, but it goes here again 500 hm high and you have a lonely valley crossing. On the Engstlistenalp can well come.

Nice lodging at Schwarenbach. Check out the TRUE story of the amazing athlete-cat, "Tomba der Gipfelstuermer" who lived there some years ago and accompanied climbers on their treks to 3000m peaks!
