Leave the Carschina Hut and head southward, climbing down to the Garschina Alp. From here, the trail soon leads to the valley road, which takes you to St. Antönien, the stage destination.
Below the Sulzfluh, a fantastic climbing mountain, walk along the wide moraine stream towards the Garschina Alp. To the west towers the mighty, perpendicular Schijenflue with the Schijenzahn, which makes for a very interesting climb, situated nearby. Head past Mittelsäss and Untersäss and then along the lovely Schanielbach stream to reach the pretty little village of St. Antönien Platz. (Bündner Wanderwege BAW)
Natural and cultural heritage
St. Antönien St. Antönien is a typical example of a Walser settlement. 1,000 years ago, Germanic tribesmen populated areas in the Oberwallis region. They were called the Walsers. Their experience as high mountain settlers later allowed them to establish even more colonies in previously unused or scarcely used mountain locations. Their desire always to leave the undivided farmstead to one single relation also forced many of the following generations to settle elsewhere. The migration route of the Walsers can be understood today through their form of settlement, type of house construction and agricultural cultivation, as is the case in St. Antönien. As there are also several Roman farmland names in the valley, it is assumed that Romans resided in the valley before the Walsers. It appears that St. Antönien was uninhabited in about 1300 and only used in the summer by the Romans as alpine pastureland. This Walser settlement consists of loosely arranged dwellings, only grouped together as a little village in a few places, particularly at the square near the church. The stables are mainly built onto the living quarters, and often they are even joined under the same roof. On the side facing the mountain, many houses exhibit a wedge made from stone or concrete. The purpose of these wedges is to divide the force of the avalanches crashing downwards or to divert them over the house rooftops. (Schweizer Wanderwege)

Friday, July 6, 2018 Still bad weather forecast today, but the stage is short and on road and then paved road (in other words class B then A and not D). St-Antönien is a beautiful village, ideal for this near-rest stage. Have found accommodation at Hotel Räthia near the church. Rainy afternoon, but I was safe!
Gästehaus Türli is south of town, coords 46.9631, 9.8114. It is recommended to call in before you arrive. +41 81 332 2060 The old house is still in pretty original Swiss state, all wood; no concrete or steel.

Haus Türli, above St Antonien, is a great option for hikers: Anke & Hanspeter Sutter have four cozy rooms for rent in a rustic farmhouse. CHF 35 for bed; CHF 60 with dinner & breakfast. St Antonien has a small grocery, but no bank. (Grocery may provide cash, but only with certain cards).
Scooters ("Rollers") are available for rent at Partnun, allowing hikers to roll down the last ~5 km to St Antonien on a paved road. (Once in St Antonien, you'd need to walk another 10 minutes up to Haus Türli-- (or call, and they'll probably pick you up.). 081 332 20 60 / 079 268 17 05
