This stage makes a detour from the limestone mountains of the Julian Alps. Follow the comfortable mule track and climb down to the Zadnjica glacial valley. Cross the valley floor covered with meadows and forest. Take time to visit the Triglav National Park information centre in Trenta, which is very interesting and worth visiting.
The 13th stage of the Red Trail coincides with the 1st stage of the Purple Trail up to the crossroads. Walk from Tržaška koča na Doliču (2,151 m) down a wide mule track built by the Italian army after the First World War which follows the one-time border. The signposts indicate the beginning of the trail and contain directions for Luknja and the Zadnjica valley. After a few minutes' walk, there is a crossroads where a path branches off to the right on a very rigorous ascent of Triglav (2,864 m). Walk down the mule track then follow the relatively flat but winding path down towards the Zadnjica valley. After about 10 minutes, a path branches off to the left towards Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih, which follows the exposed Kanjavica shelves. Your route is somewhat more comfortable and follows a broad path through the valley. Lower down, another path branches off and crosses Komar. It is a much shorter route to the Zadnjica valley, which is your goal. The route is very difficult and protected with steel pins, making it suitable only for experienced hikers. Via Alpina follows the mule track. Walk along the southern side of the wide Zelenica plateau. To the right is the rocky terrain of Kanjavica's northern face. The bare rock is gradually replaced by dwarf pine and larch. The path encircles Skok and leads to the crossroads at Korita (1,508 m). 1h 15 min. At the crossroads, climb down the eastern bank of the deep Korita ravine. Make the steep and winding descent to the gable of the Zadnjica valley. Here you will be joined by the path crossing Komar, which runs from the left over a rock face and past a waterfall. Turn right and downwards at the grassy clearing, then cross the footbridge over the stream until you reach the crossroads in the Na Planji gable (997 m). 1h. From the left, you will be joined by the Slovene balcony trail "No. 1", which you will now follow to the valley floor. The path gives way to a poor dirt track, which descends gently through a forest. The dirt track eventually gives way to a better forest road, which leads you northwest through the valley across meadows and past isolated farmsteads. Cross the bed of Beli potok stream and the vehicle barrier to find yourself in Na placu (715 m). 40 minutes. There is a parking area for passenger cars here. There is also a crossroads here, from which a path leads right to Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podi. From here on, the hike will be very comfortable. Follow the macadam road along the Krajcarica stream to the end of the valley, where it joins the main road linking Posočje to Gorenjska. You will have arrived at the settlement of Trenta, which is also the name of the valley into which you will now enter. Here you will find the Triglav National Park information centre. 20 minutes. The entire stage takes 3h 15 minutes.

Natural and cultural heritage
The path out of the Valley of the Triglav Lakes leads past Kanjavec (2,568 m) to the southern slopes of the Triglav massif. Italian alpinists built a wooden hut on this spot in 1930 but it was destroyed by an avalanche in 1951. Two years later, the Gorje Alpine Association and the Slovene Alpine Association from Trieste built a new hut nearby and called it Tržaška koča na Doliču (2,151 m). One of the most popular routes for climbing Triglav (2,864 m) leads from the hut past "Dolič", an expression for a small mountain valley. Triglav is the tallest mountain in Slovenia and its stylised image is on the Slovene coat-of-arms. Triglav is also the name of the only national park in Slovenia. The area first came under protection in 1924 when 1,600 hectares of land around the Valley of the Triglav Lakes were declared a reservation called the Alpine Protected Park. There was a need to protect the wider area because of the threat to the natural and cultural heritage of the entire central part of the Julian Alps. In 1961, a decree was announced creating the Triglav National Park. The park’s borders were extended and about 2,000 hectares came under protection. The present-day park was finally determined in 1981. It now measures 55,332 hectares and includes all the main ridges and peaks as well as parts of valleys. An additional 28,475 hectares comprising forested plateaux, picturesque valleys, settlements and winter sports centres are under a lesser protection regime. Sustainable farming and exploitation of other natural resources is allowed in this area. In addition to the natural heritage, the protected zone also includes cultural (especially architectural) heritage. A former goods trail leads from Tržaška koča na Doliču to the Trenta valley. The path leads us through the Zadnjica valley. This is one of the wildest parts anywhere in the Slovene mountains, with sheer cliffs rising from its sides. The Krajcarica stream, renowned for its good water, runs through the lower part of the Zadnjica valley. According to a local tale, a rich man once travelled through the valley and stopped to drink from the stream. After quenching his thirst, he exclaimed: "Each sip of this water is worth one krajcar!" (a kreutzer was an Austrian copper coin). This, apparently, is how the stream got its name. Peterlin, S. (1985). Nastanek in razvoj TNP. Triglavski narodni park. Bled. Cerar Drašler, I. (2004). Other long-distance trails and alternative routes
Triglav (2,864m). Variation: At the crossroads, go to Luknja and take the trail across Plemenice. Cross Triglav's Northern rock face to reach the upper part of the mountain. Climb to the summit and return by the same route to the crossroads, then descend to Dolič.

Dolicu is a perfect place to ascent Triglav. The trail up (and back down) is okay, you don´t really need any special equipment except of good hiking boots and clothes to keep you dry and warm. It´s a 700 metres ascent (and decent). You can combine it with R13 if you don´t start late. Then it´s 700 metres up and 2.200 down.

1 day from Dom na komni to Trenta.
There is drinking water at koca pri triglavskih jezerih.
Took the bus to Bovec trying to fix some gear and to have a burek before leaving Slovenia! 1.3 € the ride. Good camping options, better resupply and town life.

I didn't try to summit Triglav (weekend-crowd & instable wheather) but somehow regret it now... Dolicu only opend beginning of july but offers level ground to set up a tent - no water though.
The trail mentioned by Carsten below is great! Don't follow the early marked path directly down to the valley but stay on the broader trail!
Two campsite i Trenta: Kamp Trenta a bit to the right an dKamp Triglav a bit further down alog the creek passing the little shop and a nice restaurant some 100 mtr before the campsite. Kamp Triglav had loads of space and good facilities (inkl. a coffee vending machine :). 14.- for my small tent.
Some snowfields on the way down to Trenta on june 26th but not problematic.
Koca na dolicu was closed on Sunday 26th.

Beautiful mule trail followed by easy forest walk (and shade).
Water beginning about an hour before the end of the stage on several occasions (creek, river) and spring with trough and wooden half-pipe c.1.5km before the end of R13.
Camping possibilities starting c.1 hour before the end of R13, though possibly prohibited.
Last hour invites on several occasions to sit and relax.
Trenta Market (store) is tiny (20sqm?) but has a bit of everything. Closes 19:30 (at least on a Tuesday in early July).

June 18, 2017 See comments on step R12, which I traveled the same day.
As I'm hiking during high season, all the huts are full. Since camping is not allowed, this is a kind of difficult situation for long distance hikers. You have to make reservations or need a bit of good luck... I decided not to go to the Triglav peak, because it was extremely good weather and I happened to be here on a Saturday. It's simply too crowded in my opinion. I took another route from Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih via Koča Sasavska (beautiful location!). A fenomemal hike on a superb hiking path. I enjoyed it a lot!

Who Trenta can not provide accommodation, or who is quicker below, I recommend leaving it running until the end of the Soca trail (road a small beautiful church, a botanical garden with all alpine plants, visit recommended, then the famous gorge, and the Kugejev bronze) at the end of a nice hut (Koca pri izviru Soce 886m, Alpine Association), where you can stay and eat well, wash with a bit critical as is over the Soca river next door. Distance from the Via Alpina route is only 50 meters!

Making the way Trenta-Dolicu, get enough water from the brook before starting the climb. In the Dolicu hut there is no water available, only mineral water (4.5 € for 1.5 liter bottle). It is a good advice too, to bring your own breakfast, since the price for this is astronomical and the quality and quantity are very poor
A touristy town. Just before the info-center there is a small shop with a very limited collection of frozen bread and canned food.
