This stage crosses the Lower Bohinj mountains of the Julian Alps, whose ridges are visible ahead. First go down the rather steep slope through the forest, then climb up the ridge again. The Kobla ski slopes can be seen descending into the valley below. Črna prst is famous for its varied Alpine flora and as a vantage point. It lies within the bounds of Triglav National Park.
Take the dirt track heading north for a few metres then cross the open ridge towards the Trtniška planina meadow. You will pass the former Italian barracks below Pohoški kup (1,542 m) then follow the ridge down to the Trtniška planina meadow. 30 minutes. The path down from the meadow is at first of good quality but gives way to a forest path when it reaches the steep slopes. Follow the path down the northern rock face of the Hoč peak. There will be a dirt track leading to a farmstead and which you will cross at the bottom. You will then climb down another steep slope through the forest for a few minutes to reach the road leading to the Podhočar tourist farmhouse. Walk left along the road, following the footpath to cut across the turns in the road, until you reach the settlement of Petrovo Brdo (803 m). 1h 30 min. From the pass, go north to the forest and follow the very steep forest road running on a ridge between two ravines until you reach a crossroads. Here, a path goes left to the peak of Kup (1,046 m), but the path that you will follow goes straight ahead. After about 5 minutes, leave the path and climb the footpath up the wooded ridge to reach the road again. From the road, climb up to the Ravan meadow. 1 h 30 minutes. There is a crossroads at the beginning of the meadow. One road branches off to the right and leads to Soriška planina meadow. Your path leads to the hunting lodge, where you may take a rest. From the meadow, climb up the mule track, at first through forest, then across meadows on the southern slope of Slatnik (1,609 m) to the crossroads just below the Vrh Bače pass (1,273 m). A path leads up to Soriška planina meadow to the right, and down to the village of Podbrdo to the left. Continue walking up to the pass. 30 minutes. The Vrh Bače pass was once the main link between Bohinj and the Primorska region. From the pass, climb up the northern slope of the ridge. You will pass meadows and pine forest along the way before reaching the main ridge of the lower Bohinj mountains, then follow the ridge west to the peak of Kobla (1,498 m). 40 minutes. Kobla is renowned for the ski slopes overlooking Bohinjska Bistrica, which, however, are not on Kobla itself. From Kobla, go north down the path to the pass between Kobla and Kravja Črna gora, and from there past several springs to the Na Kalu pass. Closeby is the upper station of the chair lift. Continue walking down through the forest to the marshy and overgrown floor until you reach a crossroads where a path descends down to Planina za Črno goro. 50 minutes. From the crossroads, climb up the northern slope of Kontni vrh (1,646 m), at first through forest, to the crossroads with the balcony trail coming from the left. There is now another climb through a narrow gully called Žrelo which will lead you to the small Škrbina pass. Descend to the nearby Čez Suho pass (1,760 m), where there is a crossroads. Yet another short climb brings you to Dom Zorka Jelinčiča na Črni prsti (1,835 m). From the crossroads, 1h 30 minutes. The hike from Porezen takes 7h.

Natural and cultural heritage
At 1,630 metres, Porezen is the tallest and most picturesque of the peaks of the Cerklje hills. The grass-covered peak offers a very good view. The Porezen peak can be climbed throughout the year but the best climbs are in late June when the grassy slopes transform into a flowery carpet. Because the main Pleistocene ice sheet avoided Porezen during the Ice Age, much of its meadow plants, including the endemic Short-haired Sandwort (Moehingria villosa), which only thrives is small area between Porezen and Črna prst, were preserved. The Alpine Eryngo (Eryngium alpinum), also known as the "Queen of the Meadows", is a very rare and endangered plant that enjoys protection in Slovenia. Because of its rarity, the plant is referred to as "male fidelity" in the German-speaking world. The Alpine Eryngo is of the genus Umbilliferae and has a characteristic flower head. The umbels attract pollinators more effectively than would individual blossoms. It has a charming steel blue colour, which remains even after the plant dies. The waters of Porezen's northern slopes drain into the Bača stream 1,000 m below, whilst the waters of the southern slopes drain into the Idrijca stream. To the north, a ridge spans between Porezen and Slatnik (1,609 m), the divide between the watersheds of the Adriatic and Black seas. A small settlement, Petrovo Brdo, lies on a pass in the ridge and is connected to Baška grapa and the Selška dolina valley by a winding road. The connection between Primorska and Bohinj was at one time even more inconvenient. The only way of getting from one to the other was by walking walk across the Vrh Bače pass (1,273 m). In order to open the Soča valley to the world, construction began at Kobla in 1900 on the longest tunnel in Slovenia (6,327 m). The geology of the area and underground water made the task very difficult. Water forced the engineers to build the tunnel at an altitude of 534 m. The entrance from the Bohinj side is at an altitude of 526 m, whilst the exit on the opposite side is at 518 m. The first trial drive through the tunnel took place in 1905. Regular traffic started running a year later, when the Jesenice - Trieste railway line was completed. The fact that the tunnel was opened on 19 June 1906 by Archduke Franz Ferdinand himself, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, speaks of the importance of the railway line to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. They are legends!! Should get inducted in the VA hall of fame. All a Via Alpinist could wish for. Fantastic meal, great accomodation (They also offer bivaque style) Great advice on anything.
Dry shoes the next day over the woodstove which is the center of the house...
Due to 30 mm rain predicted for the next day we made our way to Ljubliana that day and will continue in August.

We did the first part (descent) with the last 4 h of daylight out of season on MArch 26, 2024 The route was super slippery due to melting snow. And rain. Really like soap.
Poles would have been necessary. We only had found "sticks/branches.
We didnt try our crampons, for mud they are no good I think. All 3 of us slipped a couple of times during the steep descent through the forest which normally takes 2,5 h .... continued...

Wir kamen in strömendem Regen und bei Nebel in Crna Prst an und waren die einzigen Gäste. Im Gastraum war der Holzofen angeheizt, so dass wir unsere Sachen wieder trocknen konnten. Das junge Paar, das die Hütte betreibt, hat uns rührend umsorgt und verpflegt. Die Hütte sonst ist etwas primitiv mit einem einzigen Steh-Klo und keinem Waschbecken. Eine Wasserstelle ist 30 m vor der Hütte - kein Trinkwasser!
Unterwegs haben wir auch bei Rudi in Petrovo Brdo eine Pause eingelegt und uns nett mit Rudi unterhalten, der uns zum Kaffee einlud.

Je suis resté dormir chez Rudi à Petrovo Brdo. Accueil super sympa il m'a offert des fruits fraîchement cueillis sur l'arbre le matin alors que j'avais pris le petit déjeuner avec mes propres moyens. Il y a 2 options pour le couchage:la simply room,rustique mais très bien, à 10€ (même prix que le camping qu'il propose aussi), douche à 3€; ou bien les dortoirs classiques avec un standard meilleur à 25€.
Il y a bien une bonne option de bivouac 1h après Petrovo, à côté d'un chalet avec toilettes sèches. Et il y en a une autre à côté d'un chalet juste sous le col de Vrh Bače avec un beau point de vue.

Wir sind zurück auf der ViaAlpina. :-) Und wir wollen noch mal Werbung für Rudi (Mountain Lodge Petrovo Brdo) machen. Dort zu übernachten oder eine Pause einzulegen, gehört einfach zur ViaAlpina dazu. Selten so eine gute Gastfreundschaft erlebt.
Die Hütte Črna prst ist noch sehr ursprünglich (z.B. Stehklo). Beachten sollte man, dass es kein Trinkwasser gibt, nur Flaschen zum Kaufen - so kann man sich draußen auch die Zähne putzen. Außerdem darf man eigentlich erst um 18 Uhr Richtung Zimmer. Das Pärchen, das die Hütte betreibt, ist aber super nett und sehr bemüht. Zudem bietet sich eine Nacht dort echt an, weil die folgende Etappe wirklich nich leicht ist (sehr ausgesetzte Kletter-Einlagen).
