Beyond Alpe Devero the trail goes through thin woods to Piana della Rossa. The landscape here is harsh and having passed a large number of lakes, the trail leads to the Rossa or Geisspfad pass, on the Swiss border. Continue towards the right past the Geisspfadsee and Mässersee lakes to the Mässeralp. Head downhill through the wood to reach Binn, which is famous for the Lengbach mineral mine.
From Alpe Devero the route heads northwards across a plain, along a track which ends near the last houses. Take the trail that climbs through thin woods to the Piana della Rossa plain. The trail becomes steeper and steeper, with guide ropes along one stretch, until another plain that is dotted with boulders and small lakes. Heading right, the trail continues to climb to the Rossa pass, the border with Switzerland. (Regione Piemonte) After the pass crossing, a narrow path leads over boulder-strewn fields down to the Geisspfadsee lake, in which the mountain area of the Rothorn, Grampielhorn and Grosse Schinhorn is wonderfully reflected. Head westward in a little valley marked by the boulder-strewn slopes of the rock walls rising up on both sides. The valley soon opens out. On the right-hand flank, the mountain trail leads down to the Mässersee lake. In the middle is situated an enormous rock mass, and it looks as if an elephant was bathing in it! Continue through alpine roses and stone boulders to the Mässer Alp, where the Mässerbach stream must be crossed. First, the mountain trail leads through sparse woodland and later through dense forest down to the Mässerchäller clearing. Next comes a walk across the mountainside, past the Grossi Twära peaks into the ravine of the Englischbach stream. As the direct trail to Binn can no longer be used due to wind blast zones, take the mountain trail directly into the valley down to Giesse. On the northern side of the Binna river, a beautiful hiking trail leads to Binn. (Schweizer Wanderwege)
Natural and cultural heritage
The Rossa pass is important as leads to the heart of the Alpe Veglia e Devero Park. But it is above all a historic route, used by traders to gain access to Switzerland. (Regione Piemonte) Binn The Binnntal valley was populated even 2,400 years ago, as is proven by numerous grave finds, some of which are exhibited in the Schmidigehischere museum. The very favourable Oberwallis-Binntal-Italy connection axis played a particularly important role for Binn from a very early stage. The Albrun pass offered the locals and also the tradesmen from Oberwallis a relatively easy crossing towards the south. This pass retained its great significance until the Simplon road was built. Today, the remains of this trade road are still visible in many places. In 1296, Binn was separated from the parish of Ernen and established its own parish community. The urge for independence of the people of Binn by no means stopped at that, however, and culminated in considerable concessions on the part of the episcopal sovereigns. Finally, the people of Binn decreed that no valley property could be sold or pledged to outsiders. The Binntal valley also gained renown very early on through its mineral quarry, and a great many first discoveries were made and also publicised in the Binntal. The Lengenbach site became famous for its mineral diversity, as so far 19 minerals of worldwide uniqueness have been quarried there. The Lengenbach mineral quarry is thus one of the 10 most important discovery sites on Earth. A wood industry was also made possible thanks to the abundance of forestland in Binn. Today, there is still a cabinetmaker’s workshop and a larger and smaller carving workshop. At the start of the 1950s, the power station company also captured the Binn water right at the mouth of the Binntal valley for electrical energy production. In the early 1960s, a second company captured the Binn water in Freichi, and then also the water in the catchment area around Heilig Kreuz (Langtal). These power station constructions brought prosperity to the valley. Churches and chapels contribute to the village image of Binn. On the village square you can see a residential house that was built in 1561 and to which a storey was added in 1782. Opposite the schoolhouse stands the baroque chapel of Saint Anthony built in 1690. The date and a painted sundial can also be found outside on the front of the organ loft. Inside is an altar made in 1692 by Johann Ritz from Selkingen with Saint Anthony of Padua in the main niche. (Schweizer Wanderwege)

Übernachtung in Crampiolo im Albergo La Baita (http://www.alpedevero.it/baita.htm - labaita@alpedevero.it). Tolles Albergo, super Essen und sehr nette Betreiber.

The stage hiked from Binn to Crampiolo / Alpe Devero. Due to very poor visibility in the morning you should walk over the Albrunpass instead of the Geisspfadpass. This is recommended by all local residents. Nevertheless, very nice hike through the Binntal past the Binntalhütte over the Albrunpass. Overnight in Crampiolo in the Albergo La Baita (http://www.alpedevero.it/baita.htm - labaita@alpedevero.it). Great albergo, great food and very nice operator.

The sign in Alpe Devero gives 6:20 to Binn. We needed even more time due to rocky landscape (see also comment of Mountain Gril). Beautiful tour however!

Attention: The times are not right. The height information also not. Passo della Rosa is 2474 meters above sea level. It is mgl. to go straight from Bivacco to the pass. And care in poor visibility. First you have to go through a rock face and then through the boulder field. I can imagine that this gives problems in poor visibility.

Much of this stage is spent on boulder fields. Unless you're a skilled rock-hopper, plan on a long day. I found this stage to be much more demanding than the distance or elevation gain would suggest. It's also a long descent into the valley. The charming Binntal and Binn itself made it worthwhile however.
