The Venet mountain is the last barrier to cross before the Inntal valley. On arriving on the ridge, one gets an impressive view over the limestone massif of the Lechtal Alps, while the silicate peaks of the Pitztal and Ötztal Alps with their glaciers stretch out behind. Glide down into Zams in the Inntal valley with the cable car.
Keep westwards on passing the Wenns parish church, on a slightly uphill route to the main road. Follow this motorway on the left for a while until the road to the village of Farmie branches off to the right. The road winds steeply up the sunny slope, keeping to the right at the chapel in the direction of Auders. Finally, the road becomes narrower and joins a little roadway leading to Auders. There, keep on the left to the little chapel and continue in the direction of Audershof. Shortly after the bridge, the E5 swings off to the left. The route passes through the Klockerwald wood on a gentle incline along the sloping ridge until reaching the Larcher Alm meadow at 1,814m (approx. 2h 30min). At the Lacher Alm, keep walking towards the left and follow the forest road in the direction of the Gaflun Alm meadow. The route now starts to become steep. It stretches upward on a little track continuing to the right, passing in parts over very wet mountain pastures. Following the E5, and keeping to the right again at the next turnoff, wind your way upwards to the Wannejöchl pass. The strenuous climb takes a good 2h from the Lacher Alm meadow. The Wannejöchl pass offers the first impressive view into the Inntal valley far below and the limestone massif of the Lechtal Alps, over which Via Alpina then continues into the Lechtal valley. Keep to the left and continue upwards over a smaller peak to the Glanderspitze with the summit cross at 2,512m, the highest point of this stage. From the Glanderspitze, you can already see down to the Krahberg mountain and the restaurant of the Venet railway mountain station. After the descent into the hollow between Glanderspitze and Krahberg, the route once again takes a brief uphill course to the restaurant (1h 30min from the Wannejöchl pass). A transparent panoramic vista panel describing the surrounding mountains has been set up at the Krahberg. The 3-hour descent via the Langersbergalm meadow and the village of Anreit is rather long. For those who wish to save a little energy for the next stage, it is also possible to glide down to Zams with the Venet railway. As this stage is rather long, it is advisable to make the ascent with the Venet railway. (Christina Schwann, OeAV)
Natural and cultural heritage
It was the Raetians who settled in the Pitztal valley. They probably reached the valley via the Pillersattel pass, as the Inn ravine was at this time very difficult to cross. The Raetians were a warlike people of Indogermanic origin from the areas South of the Alpenhauptkamm range. They paved the way for the later Roman settlement. Relics dating back to the year 1400 BC have been found at the burnt offerings site in the Piller pass. The rock of the Ötzaler-Stubaier Masse is a mixture of eruptive and matamorphic stone forming a typical chain of primitive rocks. These are old crystalline rocks composed of silicate, with quartz as the predominant material. The Pitztal valley is divided into two valleys: the lower Pitztal reaching almost to Wenns, formed by the Northern Limestone Alps and the Landecker quartz phyllites. The Venet region also belongs to the Landecker Masse, formed from phyllites and phyllite gneiss that are relatively lightly weathered. These are what make the soft terrain so characteristic of the Venet region. The edge of the old crystalline is hemmed by the steeply towering Aifenspitze peak. Even from Venet, there is a glorious view over the Inntal valley and the mighty towering Lechtal Alps. They have a very different geological composition than the Pitztal and Ötztal Alps. The River Inn forms a border, so to speak, between the silicate and the limestone. Only at the Hahntennjoch pass has a layer of considerably softer Raibler strata allowed a crossover lower than 2,000m above sea level. The dolomite is the main building material of the Lechtal Alps and occurs in all four nappe systems. Dolomite is a mixture of limestone and magnesite that can only be formed by seaweed in seas with a temperature of 30 degrees. Other long-distance trails and alternative routes
Head via the Gaflung Alm meadow along the ridge to the Krahberg peak, which is easier and not so steep, but does not offer the impressive view that can be enjoyed from the Glanderspitze peak. E5
