Thüringerberg
THÜRINGERBERG (877m above sea level, 700 inhabitants). This is the site of one of the first Rhaeto-Roman permanent settlements in the Große Walsertal valley dating back to the early Middle Ages, which was mentioned by the name of Montaniolos in 831. From the 14th century, a Valser population also settled here. The appearance today is therefore characterised by the scattered form of settlement with little "Paarhöfe" (farm buildings with two parallel two-storey houses) typical of Valser areas (sheds separated from the residence built on the valley side). So there is no distinctive village character. The parish church built in the 18th century was enlarged in around 1960 and renovated in 1990.
