The Pilot Project dedicated to promoting Ecomuseums (open-air museums, n.d.T.) along the Via Alpina route aims at stimulating visits and knowledge of Piedmontese sites realized with the intent to recover, safeguard and emphasize peculiar aspects of mountain culture, both material and nonmaterial. Each ecomuseum site offers a particular offer to visit and discover its territory, taking callers to learn about man’s activities and workplaces, elements of rural culture and alpine civilization, through peculiar and different routes, deeply linked to the characteristics of the mountain context where they are set (mineworking in Val Germanasca, the old shepherds’ “routo” in Alta Valle Stura, mountain people’s lifestyle according to Occitan tradition in Valle Gesso, etc.). All the different suggestions for visits and stays offer a variegated offer of cultural proposals aiming at differentiating typologies of fruition of the Via Alpina, joining together hiking and naturalistic and environmental interests aroused by a mountain context with cultural worthiness offered by rural civilization, bringing forth new interpretations of Alpine identity’s distinguishing characters.
