TASTE HIKES IN ALTA VAL TANARO
The project sprouts from an idea of the Italian Alpine Club and Slow Food Italia to emphasize and promote the excellent typical and traditional mountain products in the Via Alpina area and its offer of hiking tourism. Alta Val Tanaro, in the province of Cuneo, where the Consortium and interested Branches operate, has been identified as a laboratory-area where one can formulate a series of holiday offers, all inspired by food and wine hiking, through actions aimed at involving and organizing tour operators and high-quality food farmers. The aims are: bringing high-quality typical products to accomodation facilities for hikers (refuges and small mountain hotels), taking hikers to visit producers, reaching them through walking routes directly into their businesses, with demonstrations of their processing and guided tastings on the premises. Moreover, particural attention is paid along the route towards the “signs” of the territory’s material culture. Thus, the project has led local tour operators to organizing 8 tourist packets dedicated to Taste hikes, each with different features although all inspired by the Via Alpina spirit. Such preliminary outcomes only represent the first step of a path that will lead to creating a real “protocol for the quality of mountain hospitality”, common to both associations, including formative and requalification actions for the accommodation and catering offer. Once tested in Alta Valle Tanaro and after verifying the economic relapse for adherent operators, the ambition is to export such model into all Italian mountains.
