Castle of Verrès
Historical and architectural information: Extraordinary example of one-block castle, it was built in the last decade of the XIV century by Ibleto from Challant, representative of one of Aosta Valley’s most important noble families. This fortress’s majestic simplicity, with its huge size of about thirty metres on the sides, underlines the building’s typically military character. At the same time, the might of the staircase in the inside courtyard – laid down on polyhedral rampant arches – and the decorations on the windows, the doors and the monumental fireplaces’ chimneypieces, show the excellence of the workers called to operate in the castle.
