Fortezza Hapsburg Fort
Historical and architectural information: The massive granite fort located just under the Stretta south of Fortezza’s artificial basin was erected between 1833 and 1839 as a defence against enemy invasions from the South. The whole building was called “Franzensfeste”, which means “Francis’s Fortress”, in honour of Austrian Emperor Francis I. The fort hasn’t carried out its original purpose for a long time now.Information for visits: Opening times and fares 2007 Guided tours from June to September each Thursday at 4 p.m. (in August, every Tuesday at 4 p.m., too).
